1.What’s the best thing about your job? (Be honest!)
The people I work with. We’re all here because we all love working in radio but everyone has a different skill set. It’s great to be able to refer my clients to our ace planners, S&P specialists, our creative team – The Maple Street Studios or The Bid4Spots ladies (who are mental by the way) knowing my client will get star treatment. And if I’m really struggling, ex-RAB employee Simon Pearce, our in house insight guru (and by that I mean geek).
2. What’s your favourite station and which radio programmes do you listen to?
So many stations… It used to be talkSPORT but as I’m an Arsenal fan I’ve had to boycott them over the last year or so. We’re loving Juice FM, Liverpool in the office currently. No wonder they won the Sony award! Friday morning has to be Shine 87.9 though. Give it a go.
Favourite programme is Geoff Lloyd’s Home Time. I could listen to his musings on a loop.
3. What radio campaign are you most proud of working on?
Ladbrokes. I believe they were radio’s first sports betting spot advertiser in the UK. A nice accolade if true. I bought a season long premiership package on talkSPORT on behalf of Pure Media and we were on air the very first available day once the code allowed. Most recently was Oxfam’s International Women’s Day with the guys at Mike Colling. Also, look out for Wateraid’s The Big Dig campaign this summer. A magnificent effort from everyone involved.
4. Which radio campaigns have caught your ear recently?
What’s Brian Blessed doing this month?
5. What’s the biggest hurdle you have to overcome to get radio on the schedule, and how do you manage this?
Measurement, but we’re getting there thanks to radio’s “great threat”, digital!
6. What’s your view on what the big trend in media will be this coming year and how do you think it will it affect radio?
Social will go from strength to strength but mobile is expected to boom. Both complement radio and vice versa so exciting for us!
7. What was your local station when you were growing up?
95.8 Capital FM, Capital Gold
8. Which DJ best defines your youth?
Jonathan Pierce and his crazy commentary: “Ian Wright, Wright, Wright!”. Obviously Chris Tarrant (aka MCH).
Them and Steve Jackson on Kiss.
9. What was the first album you bought?
MC Hammer, Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em.
10. If you weren’t working in radio, what would you be doing?
After commencing a very successful athletics career by winning the Olympic 800m in London this summer at the ripe old age of 35, I’d retire to a very short lived and disastrous TV career then become an overpaid coach at a University in the USA to escape my humiliation.

Always good to see MC Hammer get a mention
