After commercial radio’s success at the Sony’s, who will be the big winners at the Arqiva Awards?
Commercial Radio scooped a record fourteen gold awards at the Sony Radio Academy Awards which took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Global, UTV and Absolute Radio picked up three golds, while GMG won two and Bauer one.
But now it’s time to turn our attention to the up and coming 2011 Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards in July. The nominations were announced at Studio Valbonne in central London and the party, in association with NDL, was hosted by Capital FM’s Roberto and organised by us at the RadioCentre.
This year’s nominations are led by Bauer, who appear in ten different categories, with a total of thirteen nominations. Global have received eight while GMG and Absolute Radio each have seven nominations.
The Arqivas Awards ceremony will be even bigger this year as the event also incorporates the Radio Advertising Awards, making a grand total of thirty categories available to be won. Across the five advertising categories, which included awards for Best Creative, Most Effective Campaign, Branded Content and Advertiser of the Year, we received a fantastic amount of entries.
There are three very strong contenders for Advertiser of Year which is a brand new category in the advertising awards. Lloyds TSB will be up against Mars for whom we have seen a significant increase in revenue from the confectionary side of their business, up over 200% YoY and with their share on radio currently sitting at over 10%, also in the running is our third biggest radio spender British Gas.
Don’t miss out on the fantastic Christian O’Connell from Absolute Radio, a firm favourite of mine, who will be hosting the awards evening once again on 6th July at the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza. Accompanying Christian on the night will be live music performances from some special guests to be announced nearer the event.

Hope to see you there!
